Kerrville Boy is wounded in Tawara Attack
Pvt. Salter Ridgaway member of the Second Marine division, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Ridgeway of South Fork Ranch in western Kerr County, was wounded in the U. S. attack on the island of Tawara in the Marshall Group. Two thousand U. S. Marine died and 2,000 were sounded in the bloody assault on the Jap-held atoll. In a letter to his mother which she received early this week, Private Salter said 'It was pretty rough, but we are all right" The War Department in its form communication had notified Mr. and Mrs. Ridgeway of their son's injury."

Eugene Salter Ridgaway was born June 12, 1919 in Kerrville, Kerr Co, TX and died May 31, 1944 in Saipan and is buried there. He married Winona Blevins.

Held Monday For

Funeral services for William Pitt Ridgaway, 80, were held Monday morning in the chapel of the Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon L. Wright of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints officiating, assisted by Rev. Sid Rees. Interment was in the Center Point Cemetery.
A native of Temple, he had lived in Kerr County for the' most of his life, and the greatest part was in the Turtle and Fall Creek communities. He was a ranchman and stock farmer, and all of his life had been an ardent sportsman and an advocate of wild life conservation. He had been active around his home until about four days before his death, and was brought to the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital where his death occurred Saturday morning. He was a member of the Mormon Church.
He is survived by his widow, the former Susan Gibbens; one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Morrison of Center Point; a brother, Robert Ridgeway of Kerrville; one sister, Mrs. M. F. Dilley of McAllen; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His only son, Eugene Salter Ridgaway, was a member of the Marine Corps and was killed at Tarawa during World War II.
Pallbearers were Forrest Stevens, Kay Stevens, Cole Wadell, Robert Ridgaway Jr., G. C Sutherland Jr, D. Edwards, B. N. Brock.
