Obituary:
Age 82, of Castle Shannon, on April 22, 2005, passed peacefully in the care of his loving family. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Miller; four daughters, Donna (Floyd) Vissat, Naval Commander Gail (Dennis) Manko, Lisa (Edward) Bak, Mary Carol (Bill Orland; his sister, Mary Jane Campoll; sister-in-law Carroll Miller; brother of the late John and Ed; brother-in-law of Jack Shaughnessy and the late Joan Shaughnessy. Bill was a loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Kirk, Anne Marie, Landon, Logan, Tyler, Alexis, Cory, Ryan, Rebecca and Rachel. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bill served in the US Army 712th tank battalion during the "Breakthrough to Normandy" and was wounded in combat where he received the Purple Heart on August 7, 1944. He was employed by the US Post Office for 37 years, retiring the 1985. He was an active member of the Cardinal Wright Assembly of the Knights of Columbus and was a life member of Council 491. Bill was a member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church parish for the past 50 years and a member of the D.A.V. and American Legion. He was a member of the Castle Shannon Senior Citizens and St. Anne's 55 Plus Club. He loved to bowl, play cards and take long walks in South Park. He was a friend to all who knew him and will be deeply missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 9:00 AM in St. Anne's Church.
