Elmer came to Milestone in 1904, and took up a homestead at Parry. In 1907, Bert married Minnie Belle (Runkle) Lanker at Osage, Minnesota. Minnie, a widow, had a son Vernon, who was adopted by Bert. In 1908 Bert bought land north of Milestone. Bert & Minnie had two more children: Gordon b: 1913 and Herbert b: 1916. In the fall of 1927 Bert was kicked by a horse and developed a brain tumor and died in 1928. Minnie and the boys continued farming. In 1944, Minnie remarried Jim Mallard.
