"Mr.S was born in Wythe County, Virginia, in 1813. He removed to Knox
County in September 1832, was married to Miss Cassandra A. Byers on
the 7th day of October, 1845. She was born August 5th,1826. They had twelve children - nine sons and three daughters - all of whom are living
but two. Two are married, viz: Thomas married Miss Mary Pullman,and resides on his farm near Russellville, ILs; John W was married to Miss
Martha B. Hixon and resides in Washington, Daviess County, Indiana.
Mr.S.'s residence , two miles east of Bruceville, on the Washington road ..."

"George W. Steffey, Esq., of Washington Township, who has been a
citizen of this county for forty years, will remove in a few days to
Henderson County, Kentucky, where he will make his future home.
Mr.S. has been one of our most worthy and respected citizens, and
it is a source of regret to his many friends that he has decided to
leave Indiana. "Uncle George" as he is familiarly called, has our best
wishes, and we hope he may live many years..."

"An Octogenarian Celebrates the Eighty-First Anniversary of his Birth
in Royal Style":
On Wednesday, November 1,1894 the many friends and relatives and acquaintances of "Uncle" George Steffy, as he is familiarly known by everybody, assembled at the residence of Mrs. T. M. Dayson, 8 miles
east of this city on the Louisville, road to surprise "Uncle" George, it
being the eighty-first anniversary of his birth. As "Uncle" George was
not aware of his friends movements, it was made doubly more
interesting to all.
Among those who were present and enjoyed the pleasantries and sociability of this octogenarian were Uncle George's four sisters,
"Aunts" Katie Pickle, Jemima Katron, Sarah Steen, Lucretia Steffy ...
