TUPELO - Mary Elizabeth Barnes Underwood, 93, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at her son's residence. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Marietta. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and quilting.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the W.E. Pegues Funeral Home Saltillo Chapel with Bro. Horace Barnes, Bro. Carl Dunlap and Bro. Ray Guin officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughters, Melba Gean Tate of Gautier, Margie Ann Daily (Joe) of Brandon and Joyce Marie Hester of Hamilton, Ala.; her sons, J.M. Barnes (Nan) and James Edward Barnes of Tupelo; one sister, Toxie Lindsey of Kirkville; her grandchildren, Levain Leathers (Nancy), Juanita Morphis, Tommie Bragg (Frank), Johnny Patterson, Braden Tate, Tony Patterson (Linda), Bill Tate, Cynthia Dawson (Steve), Greg Daily, Michael Hester (Julie) and Rita Holloway (Joe); and her caregiver, Oline Lee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clee and Roxanne Taylor; her husband, James Frank Barnes; one grandchild, Raymond Leathers; one great-grandchild, Katrina Braggs; her sisters, Beulah Lindsey, Alma Strickland and Vesta Baxter; and her brothers, M.C. Taylor, Joesph Taylor and Johnny Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Lee Strickland, Joe Holloway, Joe Daily and Jason Leathers.

Memorials may be made to the North Miss. Hospice.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues.
