Ora Boston was the son of James Emerson Boston and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (McCart) Boston.

Ora died at the age of 13 from pyemia, a type of septicaemia that leads to widespread abscesses. It was almost always fatal before the development of antibiotics. His Missouri Death Certificate 31562 states Ora died of abcess in ear.

The death certificate does not appear to have been filled out by a family members as the month and day of birth are unknown and the year of birth is shown as 1899. Also, the mother's maiden name is unknown on this document. The child's obituary states he was 15, but the certificate states he was 13. According to census records, he was born in 1898.

In the 1910 census of Saline County, Missouri, James was listed as a grocery merchant. Children in their home at that time were Cora 21, Willie 16, Ora 12, and Walter 10. Also living with them was a granddaughter Goldie Meredith age 5.
