Luella was born in Sawpit, CO on August 31 1901. Ella was the eleventh and last child of Isaac Butler Imes and Permelia Venora (Blair) Imes. Ella, a happy child, was the only child with blonde hair and blue eyes in her large family. Ella's family moved to Mesa, Arizona to a farm in Lehi Valley when Ella was ten years old. Ella's Father passed away when Ella was ten years old. Ella attended Mesa schools and later worked as a telephone operator. When Ella was 17 years old, she met Herman Hansford from Phoenix at the Mesa skating rink where her Mother would go with her as a chaperone. When Ella was 18 years old, with her Mother's consent, Ella and Herman were married. Ella and Herman had a daughter named Luella May on November 15, 1920, and a son, named John Herman Hansford on April 8, 1927. Ella was a homemaker. Ella and Herman lived in Phoenix except for a few years during their younger years of marriage when they lived in Tucson. Their son, John, was born in Tucson before they returned to Phoenix to live. Ella and Herman had a wonderful marriage of 48 years until Herman's passing on July 31, 1967. Ella's daughter, Midge (Luella), remembers her parents as extra special people, dearly loved, who were her "best friends".
