Esther Dora Imes was the 10th child in a family of eleven children born to Permelia Blair Imes and Isaac Butler Imes. Isaac was a hard working miner in Colorado. The family moved to Mesa, AZ when Esther was a young girl. Esther's Father, Isaac, farmed after the family moved to Mesa.

Esther and Wiley Duke were married April 1, 1914 in Mesa, AZ. Esther and Wiley had five children. Three of their children, Carroll Eugene (1914-1917), George Elwood (1915-1918), and Claude Elmon (1919-1921) died before the age of five years old. Carroll and George lost their lives in a tragic accident at home, and Claude died from pneumonia. Daughter Ilene Dora and son Merle Emerson, dearly loved their Mother throughout her lifetime as did her Grandchildren. Wiley Duke, Esther's beloved husband, died on January 6, 1961. Esther died from pneumonia in a hospital in Rexburg, Idaho on March 9, 1986 at the age of 87. When Esther passed away, her daughter Ilene Dora Duke Boice and son Merle Emerson Duke, three Grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren survived her.
