Born in Lodz, Poland, one of 10 children, she was the daughter of Gershon and Chupa Jakubowitz. At the onset of World War II and as a teenager, she and her family lived within the Lodz Ghetto and were forced into slave labor. She became separated from her family and was deported to Auschwitz Concentration Camp in Poland and again transferred to other concentration camps until being liberated at the end of the war. Hannah met Sam and married him in a displaced person camp in Lampertiam Germany. As refugees, they were transported by the U.S. Navy to Nashville, TN with their six month old daughter, Shuli. After three years they moved to Hartford to be near Hannah's surviving sister, Toby Korduner and family.

She worked for the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company until retirement. She was an active volunteer for the Hadassah Thrift Shop and enjoyed dancing with the JCC senior dancers.
