The Brady Cemetery is built on land that was owned by Joseph Parkman and John Tyrone. Joseph Parkman was in Mississippi by 1806 based on the birth places of his children. He moved from South Carolina through Tennessee to Lawrence County, Mississippi.

Joseph Parkman was born in what was known as the Ninety Six District of South Carolina. He married Susannah Boyd, daughter of Edmond Boyd and Susannah Thurmond. Joseph and Susannah moved to Lawrence County, Mississippi before the 1820 census. They received land patent #77. His future son in law, John Tyrone, received land patent #76.
