Obituary in The Bienville Democrat March 28, 1968:

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 26 for James Clinton (Josh) Sutton from the Gibsland Baptist Church. Officiating at the service were the Rev. M.F. Copeland, the Rev. Hogan Hunter, the Rev. Larry Joyner, pastor of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, and the Rev. Terry Douglas, new pastor of the Gibsland Baptist Church. Burial was in the Mt Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Conger Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Wayne Sutton, Billy Sutton, Fred Sutton Jr., Harry Sutton, Fletcher Sutton, Pete Burt, E.W. Merritt Jr. and Olen Kettler. Honorary pallbearers were fellow deacons of the deceased and the Rev. J.A. Jones, the Rev. O.C. Hoover of Gibsland, and the Rev. J.I. Funderburk of Shreveport.

Mr. Sutton died in hsi sleep Monday morning. He had not been ill and had attended church on Sunday, the day before, and had taught his Sunday School class at the Gibsland Church, where he had been extremely active in all phases of the church work for a number of years. He was a member there. He had been a long time resident of Gibsland and before his retirement had been engaged in farming, saw mill operation and extensive cattle raising for a number of years. He was born March 7, 1898 at Terryville in Lincoln Parish, the son of the late Oliver Sutton and Hattie Sutton, early settlers of Lincoln Parish.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bess Baker Sutton of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Johnson Merritt of Gibsland and Mrs. Patsy Holley of Damascus Maryland; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
