Emmet Stetson Obituary
21 Nov 1919 Momence Reporter (Image433 of 875)
Emmet Stetson, son of Henry M. and Mary S. Stetson, was born in Aroma township, Jan. 29th 1858, and died Nov 13, 1919 at the age of 64 years, 9 months, and 24 days. On Feb. 17th 1886, he and Miss Lois Legg of Aroma, were united in marriage. To this union were born three children, George and Robert of Momence and Miss Elsie, who lives at home. Besides the wife and children, one brother, Edward and two sisters, Mrs. T. C. Sherwood of Watseka, ILL and Mrs. Jas. Hall of Momence are left to mourn his loss. Also the nieces and nephews and one grand daughter little Lois Stetson.
Mr Stetson's illness was of short duration, he being a sufferer from blood poisoning contracted from the extraction of a sliver from his arm. He was loving and kind in his home and was a man of sterling character, whose word was as good as gold. He had a keen sense of humor and hated all shame and hypocrites. Although of somewhat retiring disposition he was jovial and kind to all his acquaintances. Mr. Stetson was friendly to all moral reforms and was a sound believer in the fundamental Christian religion. The sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved relatives.
At home, Mr. Stetson didn't go to war he was a soldier at home, never failing to do his bit in buying bonds, giving to YMCA, Red Cross or Salvation Army. Then too, he worked like bravest of soldiers in his fields to help keep the ones the boys left behind when they went to war. The evidence of exemplary conduct through the trying times of war was justly merited as he was a true patriot and stood for only the right and honorable. It is needless to say, he was a man of more than ordinary ability. When
he spoke his words were long remembered and well thought of. He believed in the brotherhood of man and stood firmly when in the right regardless of public opinion. His home life was simple homelike and attractive, always open to all. The pride of his life was his family. Never did trouble enter this home for Emmet never borrowed it. To the end he was himself, the ever warm hearted and genial, Emmet Stetson.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Aroma Park Saturday attendance at 2:30 o'clock. Burial in the Aroma Park cemetery. Those who attended the services from Momence were Mr. & Mrs. M.M.
