      Henry Poppenberg, Sr. of 620 2nd Avenue Northeast passed away yesterday, December 4, at 8 A. M. at the St. Joseph's hospital after being confined to his bed about two weeks, infirmities of age being the cause of death.
      He was born in Germany March 23, 1851. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of six years, locating in Cincinnati, O., where he grew to manhood. On April 11, 1871, he married Elizabeth Betzold. In 1885, Mr. Poppenberg moved his family to Brainerd, and worked as a moulder in the Parker-Topping Foundry. He served his county as commissioner for many years, and was also a member of the city council, at one time acting as president; and always maintained a keen interest in political affairs.
      Surviving are his widow, three sons, Henry J. Jr., Matt J., and Leo J., of Bemidji; and three daughters, Mr. W. S. McClenahan and Miss Marjorie Poppenberg of Brainerd, and Mrs. D. B. McAlpine of Ironton. Six children predeceased him.
      The funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at the St. Francis Catholic church at 8:20. Rev. Fr. Hogan officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 05 December 1928, p. 7, c. 3)
