Margaret Birkmyre (Brookmire) was born in Ballyvessey, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, the daughter of John Birkmyre. Her mother's name is not known at this time. At the age of 25, she married John Sherrard on July 12, 1850 in Carnmoney Church of Ireland in Newtownabbey, Antrim, Northern Ireland. She and John were the parents of 7 children, all born in Ireland. They were Sarah Jane (my great grandmother), Robert, Ezekiel, Margaret, Mary, Hugh and Joseph. John and Margaret left Ireland, immigrating to America. They went to Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania area where her brother, James Gordon Brookmire and his family lived. In the early 1900s, they moved to Skidmore, Missouri, to live with their daughter, Margaret and her husband Robert Barrett. She died there on Christmas Day at the age of 89. Her son, Robert remained in Ireland. Her son, Hugh immigrated with them and lived in Warren County, Pennsylvania. Her son, Ezekiel and his wife, Dora immigrated in 1890 to Pittsburgh. Daughter, Sarah Jane died in Ireland of cancer at the age of 36. Sarah's widower, James Steele Moore immigrated to the United States with their 6 children in 1892, and lived the rest of their lives in Warren County, Pennsylvania.
