Henrietta Short Watts, 87, of Paris passed away Monday, March 12, 2007, at Dubuis Hospital.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Dr. Rusty Hedges and Rev. Mike Shields officiating. Burial follows in Meadowbrook Gardens.
The family receives friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born April 25, 1919, in Lamar County, the daughter of Samuel Crockett Short and Jessie Lucinda Hodges. She attended schools at Clardy, Plainview and Lamar Business College in Paris. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, taught the Loyalty Sunday school class for a number of years and was a member of the Chancel Choir. She was presented a lifetime membership in 1955, of the United Methodist Women. She was past president of the Paris Business and Professional Women's Club. She was bookkeeper at Lamar County Chamber of Commerce from 1953 to 1957. She retired from Lone Star Gas Co. in 1981, after 24 years of service. She loved music, traveling and playing bridge and dominoes. Some of her travels included London, Paris, France, The Holy Land, Greece, Jerusalem, Washington, D.C., New York, Hawaii, all the New England states and a cruise to the Bahamas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oran Elbert Watts, whom she married in 1936; sisters, Mrs. Earline Short (Barney) Wilson, Mrs. Johnnie Short (J.D.) Allen, Mrs. Dorothy Short (James) Cunningham and Mrs. Sammie Short (Pat) McGill; brothers, William Grady Short, Ralph V. Short, Paul Short, Morris W. 'Jack' Short and Samuel Crockett 'S.C.' Short II.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was an eternal optimist always saying that tomorrow would be a better day.
