Dr. Bridge of the Geological Survey Dies (The Washington Post, May 2, 1953, page 21).

Dr. Josiah Bridge, 62, paleontologist with the Geological Survey for more than 20 years, died Thursday of a cerebral hemorrhage at Washington Sanitarium, Takoma Park, MD.

A native of Norwood, Ohio, he received his A.B. degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1916, his M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1918, and his Ph.D. from Princeton in 1929. He was the oldest person ever awarded a doctorate at Princeton.

During World War I, he served as a first lieutenant in the Army. He came to the District in 1930, and at the time of his death, lived at 40 Columbia Ave., Takoma Park, [Maryland].

Past president of the Geological Society of Washington, he was a member of the Paleontological Society of America, and Blue Hydra, honorary biological society.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lucy Brown Bridge, of the Columbia Ave. address, and three sons, Herbert S., of Wakefield, Mass.; Richard B., of Greenbelt, Md., and James A., of Albuquerque. N.M.

Funeral services will be held at Hines funeral home, 2901 14th St. NW [Washington, DC], at 1 p. m. Saturday. Burial will be in Norwood [, Ohio].
