Chisholm Cemetery was named for Enoch Parsons Chisholm,Sr.He was my gggg grandfather. He married Amanda Alabama Tennessee McMahon on January 14, 1836. Together they had 5 children, Lucinda Parsons, John Alexander, Missouri A.O., Lucrene Elizabeth, and Enoch Parsons Chisholm Jr. Enoch was an active member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a methodist minister. Enoch and his brother Rufus King were leaders in the movement to create Rockwall County in the 1870's. Another brother of Enoch's was Benjamin Franklin, who was active in the county and community affairs. Land for the cemetery and church, had once been part of land owned by his daughter Lucinda and her husband Jasper Newton Deguire.
Chisholm Chappell was constructed at the cemetery site and Enoch's grave was just behind the church near the rear entrance. Today the cemetery has many resting there. Family and neighbors from the farms and homes of this sweet and peaceful country. Enoch was the first one buried in this cemetery and is who the cemetery is named for. The town of Chisholm was established in about 1886 when Angelina Chisholm, who was Enoch's sister, platted 14 acres of her and her husband, Harrison Howell's land as a town site. After his wife Amanda died, he married Mary Anderson Billingsley (Dupree). Together they had two children, M.A. Chisholm, who died as an infant, and Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" born January 11, 1858 in Chisholm, Texas. Enoch died of pneumonia and congestion in 1875. His stone has no date of birth listed, but date of death reads 24Jan 1875, aged 62 years 44 days.
