JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mildred "Jewell" Gillis, 72, died Jan. 11, 2000, in Earl B. Hadlow Center in Jacksonville. A native of Laurens, she was daughter of Everett and Daisy Hughes Gwinn. She was a member of St. Mathew's Catholic Church and was an active member of Ladies of the Moose, L.O.O.M. Lodge No. 2020 in Jacksonville, serving in the offices of Past Sr. Regent 1990-1991, Academy of Friendship Degree and Junior Regent Chaplain in 1985. She moved to Jacksonville from Hamilton, Bermuda, where she was stationed wither her husband, who served in the Navy. Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Gillis; two sons, David B. Gillis of Jaksonville and Robert Kent Gillis of Deltona, Fla.; three daughters, Vickie Monti of Brunswick, Ga., Carolyn Gillis of Jacksonville and Kimberly Schreiber of Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, Everett Gwinn of Spartanburg; six sisters, Catherine Henderson, Virginia O'Sullivan and Barbara Gwinn, all of Spartanburg, Jean McElrath of Hemingway, Agnes Rogers of Charleston and Frances Brannon of Cowpens; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Town & Country Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Hiram McElrath and the Ladies of Moose Lodge No. 2020. Entombment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice, N.E., 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, 32257.
