OSCAR PAUL MCKENZIE, JR.

Paul McKenzie, 85, died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at his home in Panama City, FL after an extended illness. He was a native of Panama City and a graduate of Bay High, Class of 1943. Paul served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications. He was an avid photographer and a graduate of the Leica School of Photography in Solms, Germany. Paul was a member of SIGMA NU fraternity, Panama City Amateur Radio Club and the Historical Society of Bay County.

Paul taught the seventh grade at Jinks Junior High School from 1955 to 1957. After teaching, he worked with the Dental Supply Company as a field representative until 1961. He then worked for 22 years with Ortho Diagnostics, of Raritan, NJ, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, where he retired as Manager of Biological Resources in 1983.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Paul McKenzie, Sr. and Vesta Gay McKenzie; his sister, Mary Gay McKenzie and his brother, Andrew McKenzie, Sr. and wife Virginia. He is survived by his brother, Robert Gay McKenzie, Sr.; his nieces, Mary Gay Sims and husband Charles; Virginia Ann "Gigi" Zimmerman and husband Nevin; Paula Jean Patrick and husband Bruce; and Kathryn Ann Fritz and husband Mark; and his nephews, Andy McKenzie, Jr. and wife Pam; and Robert Gay McKenzie, Jr. and wife Denise. He is also survived by his caregiver and dear friend of 45 years, Gene Pressley and his daughter, Pamela Pressley Caveny.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Prior to services, the family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow with military honors in Greenwood Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 2925 Martin Luther King Blvd, Panama City, FL 32405.
