Mr. Martin Castle, son of Luman and Catharine Castle was born in Mercer County, IL on April 12, 1838. He came to Seward County, NE taking a homestead near Staplehurst in 1870. He came from sturdy ancestry, being one of six children all of whom are living with the exception of Edward, the oldest brother, who passed away some years ago. Brother Lemuel resides in Burlington, CO., Marcus, his twin, lives in Central City, NE; two sisters- Mrs. E.M. Shaffer and Mrs. Anna Rogers are both residing in California.

On March 14th, 1878, he married Miss Emma Burhans who has been his constant companion and loving wife. He joined the Seward Congregational Church on November 30, 1913. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen. Mr. Castle was an outstanding man in the cause of righteousness and high ideals of life. He has hosts of friends. About one year ago he began to decline in health and on this account he was unable to participate in the affairs that he was deeply interested in.
