Leroy and Vera were both killed in a bicycle-car accident on June 6th, a Sunday evening. Information paraphrased from their combined obituary in the Appleton Post Crescent, June 7, 1976:
Mr. Bastian, age 56, was born in the Town of Brillion. He farmed for many years in that area. He had moved to Brillion in April, 1972, where he had been employed with the Brillion Public Schools as a janitor.
They were married on September 19, 1941 in Porterfield.
They both were survived by a daughter, 2 sons, and 6 grandchildren.
Mr. Bastian was also survived by his father, Phillip, of Brillion; 2 sisters and a brother, all of Brillion.
A memorial service was held at Faith United Methodist Church.
