Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hagi Funeral Home, 205 High St., Streator, with the Rev. Sherry Stevenson of Ottawa First Church (OFC) officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Hagi Funeral Home and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Allen Township Cemetery, Ransom.

Ruth was born in Ransom to Minnie (Kates) and Frank R. Hagi on Jan. 9, 1908. Her parents, sister, Helen Schultze, and brothers, Frank of Ransom and Ival and Jack Hagi of Streator, all preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her first husband of 47 years, Franklin E. Read; husband, Ivan Strobel; two children in infancy; and her beloved niece, Luella Schultze.

Mrs. Rinker is survived by her husband, Glenn Rinker; daughters, Ruth (Larry) Gage and Joy (John) Christie; and son, Linn Read. Also surviving are grandchildren, Laurie, Read, Bruce (Cheryl) Gage, Curtis (Suzi) Read, Brian (Beth) Christie and Allison (Michael) Mueller; six great-grandchildren, David Gage, Kaylee Read, Ethan Christie, Jillian and Molly Mueller and Karie Stecken; and one great-great-grandchild, Camryn Stecken. From her marriage to Ivan Strobel, she leaves stepchildren, Edward (Eileen) and Lyle Strobel and Vanette (deceased) Anderson, and stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. From her marriage to Glenn, she leaves stepchildren, Leon (Robin), Terry (deceased) and Faith, and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Ruth started her teaching career in the little red schoolhouse that is now located in Ottawa, but was once located near Ransom. After taking time out to raise her family, she went back to teaching and started the kindergarten program at Grand Ridge Consolidated Grade School. She taught there 14 years and worked with 597 kindergarten children. She is still fondly remembered as "Mrs. Read" by many of her students and was often heard to remark that "these were some of the happiest years of my life."

Upon retirement, Ruth and her husband, Franklin, retired to Pleasant Hill, Tenn., and upon her husband's death, she returned to Ottawa where she has spent the rest of her life.

Mrs. Rinker was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ottawa, and worked faithfully in the Clara-Naomi Circle. She was a 30-year member of Ottawa Woman's Club, the La Salle County Retired Teachers Association, the Farm Bureau and a retired member of the La Salle County Home Bureau and Farm Bureau.

Ruth loved to read her Bible daily. She loved to read and could quote many of her favorite poems from memory right up to the time of her death. She also loved to watch the Bulls play basketball on TV and one of her favorite pictures in her room was of herself with her teammates when she played basketball in high school.

Pallbearers will be Ruth's family whom she loved dearly, Curtis Read, Brian Christie, Michael Mueller and Read, Bruce and David Gage.

Memorials may be directed to the Grand Ridge Grade School Kindergarten Program or to the Grand Ridge Fire Department
