"Mrs. Edwin Wright passed away at her home in this city last Saturday morning. She had been in failing health for many weeks, her strength gradually failing, and for some time the family and friends realized the end was near.
Lucy Evans Wright, daughter of William and Martha Evans, was born June second, eighteen sixty-four, and passed to her home beyond March third, nineteen twenty-three. Born of pioneer parentage (her grandparents being among the first settlers of this township) she was a woman of strong convictions, and was always right. Although deprived of the tender care of a mother in early childhood, she was raised in a Christian home, where the laws found in the Bible were the laws by which she lived. Her entire life has been spent in this community. None knew her but to love her.
She was married to Edwin Wright, September second, eighteen eighty-four. Her home life was ideal; her greatest pleasure was in making others happy, and not only her family, but many others, testify to the good times enjoyed in her home. She spent her entire life as a member of the Methodist church, and was always ready to do her part in the labors of the church, as health would permit.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, Edwin Wright, and three children, Bernard E. Wright (and wife) of New York, and Garnet and DeWitt, at home; one grandson James Wood Wright; one brother, John F. Evans, of Pomona, California; one sister, Mrs. C.F. Riggs, of Upland, California, and a host of other relatives and friends.
After two years of patient suffering, Mrs. Wright has laid off these mortal pains and taken on the immortal pleasures, leaving us a memory that makes Heaven seem nearer and the earth dearer because of the life she lived.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.C. Sundmeyer, and burial took place at the Cherry Point cemetery in charge of Rev. G.A. Flug. The music was furnished by a quartet composed of Miss Lois Garvin, Mrs. John Garvin, Mrs. L.C. Smith and Mrs. W. F. Babcock at the organ."
