Vena B. Krey, 94, of Canyon, went to be with Jesus on Friday, March 18, 2016.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 21 at Brooks Chapel with Mike Kuhlman and Lennie McCay, pastor of discipleship ministries at Washington Avenue Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery.

Vena B. Krey was born on December 16, 1921 in Camargo, Oklahoma. Dhe was the daughter of John and Ella Boatman. She had two sisters, Johnnie Cates and Sammie Thomsen. Her sisters and parents preceded her in death.

Vena attended North Western College in Alva, Oklahoma. She married and had one daughter, Janice Ann Hunt. They moved to Odessa and her husband, Wayne, died at 44 years of age. She later married Wesley Krey and spent the remainder of her years with him. They were married 53 years.

Vena’s joy was her job at Ector County Abstract and Title in Odessa, where she worked for 37 years until she retired. She loved her work! She also loved her family more than life. Vena was the matriarch of our family and she guided each of us well. She was a mother to Janice, a grandmother to Lisa Foreman and her husband, Cam, and Tesha Beaty and husband, Tim, and best of all she was GG to her great grandson, Hayden Cam Foreman and her great granddaughter, Alexa Beaty. She loved her church family and her Sunday school class at Washington Avenue Christian Church in Amarillo. Vena had a zest for life and everyone knew that by her witty personality.

While living in Odessa she loved to bowl and was on a ladies league for many years. She enjoyed fishing on the Pecos and Rio Grande Rivers where she and Wes loved their home away from home in Comstock. Vena received many honors over the years including Business Woman of the Year and Legal Secretary of the Year.

Wes and Vena moved to Canyon in 2001 and lived in Canyon until her death. A special thank you to the nurses at SkyWest Assisted Living Center By Shaw and to Tara and Tanna of Hospice Care of the Southwest.

Survivors include her husband, Wesley Krey; daughter, Janice Cluck and son-in-law, Laddie; two granddaughters, Lisa Foreman and husband, Cam, of Canyon, Tesha Beaty and husband, Tim, of Aubrey; great grandson, Hayden Foreman; great granddaughter, Alexa Beaty; two step-daughters and one son living in Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family suggests memorials be to Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington, Amarillo, TX 79110 or to Arena Church, 26101 S. US Hwy 87, Canyon, TX 79015.
