Dorinda (CROW) MCCOY was born in Noble County, Ohio, December 22, 1831. When two years old, her parents, George and Susannah CROW moved to Illinois, near to or perhaps now the city of Chicago, then a town of less than 1000 population. The Indians were frequently met with on that trip and in great numbers around their new home. Not liking the wildness of the country, with its almost unbroken prairie, they soon moved back to Ohio and in 1847 came to Jackson County, Virginia, and on the farm where she grew to womanhood.

In August 1852 she was married to William K. MCCOY, a prosperous and respected farmer who went to the great beyond many years ago. To them only one child was born, C. F. MCCOY, of Cottageville. Mrs. MCCOY was indeed fortunate in having this noble son, with his estimable wife and his kind and thoughtful children, to aid her in her declining years.

She has the following brothers and sister living: William and George B. CROW, of Ripley; Charles H. CROW, of Great Bend, Ohio, and Mrs. Martha HARDMAN, of Spencer. Having lived nearly ninety one years, on Tuesday, October 11, without a moment's warning, she joined the innumerable throng that God is caring for in the world beyond our vision.
