Eleanor Genevieve (Gowen) Jacobs died
March 4, 2007 at Biddeford.
She lived all her life at Biddeford, except
two years in Swampscott in Massachusetts.
She moved to Saco in 1967,
She was educated in Biddeford schools
where she graduated in 1931, then from
the University of Maine at Orono in 1935.
She had two years of summer school sessions at Harvard and Tuft University.
She taught school for many years at Biddeford and Saco, then after retiring taught adult education classes, and did long term substituting in local and surrounding communities.
She was a member of Maine Education Association; York County Retired Teachers Association; National Education Association;
Chi Omega Sorority; Thursday Club; and a
life member of Adah Chapter of Eastern Star.
She attended the Universalist Church.
She served as election ballot clerk for her Saco ward. Also was a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Mobile.
She was an avid fan of all spectator sports, especially of Biddeford Tigers and Boston teams.
She enjoyed feed birds and animals, especially her black cats and could not tolerate abuse of animals, wild or domestic.
Eleanor held a deep appreciation and enthusiasm for life. She enjoyed the kindness and friendship of people, and, had saved and treasured the many cards of Friendship she had received.
Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
