Marlin E. Benson, 91, of Rushville, passed away August 7, 2011 at Millers Merry Manor.

Marlin was born in Knightstown, IN on April 21, 1920, the son of the late Albert and Ethel Benson. He was a 1938 graduate of Mays High School. He married Mary Marshall January 2, 1942 and she preceded him in death February 15, 1975. He then married Lois Beckner and she preceded him in death April 1, 1999.

Surviving him is a daughter Sandra Benson Butz of Indianapolis, two grandchildren Julie (Christopher) Strange of Lexington, KY & Kent Butz of West Lafayette, IN.

He served his country during WWII in Battery C, 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. He was awarded two bronze stars for the Tunisian and Sicilian Campaigns. He participated in the first phase of the Italian Campaign form Salerno, Italy to Volturno River, and the second phase from crossing the Volturno River to Mignano; the Anzio Beach Campaign and the capture of Rome, Italy.

He farmed in Posey Township for many years, drove a school bus and was active in community activities. Over the years, he served as a deacon in the Hannegan Christian Church and later became a member of the Arlington Christian Church. He also was a member of the Lions Club, American Legion, Elks Lodge, and 50 year member of the Elks Country Club.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 12th, at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory with Pastor Bob Brock officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at Arlington (IN) East Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday at 10:00 AM at the funeral centre.
