He was a lifetime farmer and had resided at his present location at R.R.1, Milroy the past 30 years. He was a member of the Milroy Christian Church, the Rushville Elks, the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis. He attended Butler University where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
