LUVIA FLATT
The funeral for Luvia Flatt, 97, Valley City, was held at 11a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Baldwin Presbyterian Church, Pillsbury. The Rev. James Wright officiated and burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City. She died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Luvia Irene McKay was born March 12, 1903, in Baldwin Township, Barnes County, the daughter of Neil and Elizabeth (Sowden) McKay. She graduated from Baldwin Township School.
She married Marvin J. Flatt on Oct. 10, 1923. They made their home near Hope where they farmed. In 1935, they moved to the Pillsbury area. Marvin died in 1935 and Luvia continued to farm until 1948. She moved to Fargo where she cooked for various restaurants. She operated the VA Canteen for several years before returning to Hope in 1970. Luvia entered the Sheyenne Care Center in 1996.
She was a member of Baldwin Presbyterian Church, Pillsbury.
Survivors are three sons, Merle (Marion) Flatt, Valley City; Glenn Flatt, Mesa, Ariz.; and Marvin (Ruby) Flatt, Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne (Marvin) Diemert, Fargo, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Visby of Hope; a sister-in-law, Ethel McKay, Valley City; a brother-in-law, Herb (Stella) Flatt, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; 17 nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her prents, husband, a son Wesley; four sister, Jessie, Katherine, Blanche and Emma, seven brother, George, Frank, Lyle, Neil, Vern, bob, and Clarence; one grandaughter and one grandson.
Funeral arrangements are by Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
