Hylas Wood, aged 78 years, one of the best known citizens of Marysville, died Saturday afternoon at his home. He was born in Marysville, June 16, 1837. He was a son of Dr. and Mrs. Ira Wood. There were five children in the family only one of whom is still living, A.G. Wood and Attorney in Warsaw, Indiana. The deceased enlisted in Company F, 13th Ohio Infantry at the beginning of the Civil War. He served three years.
He was united in marriage, August 15, 1870 to Miss Catherine Wise of Jerome Township. Three children were born, Charles, William and Walter. Charles died a number of years ago. The other two children are living.
The deceased was a carpenter and contractor following this trade almost all of his life. He was a member of Ransom Reed Post, GAR.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock under the auspices of the GAR, The services were in charge of Rev. J.F. Olive. The internment was made in Oakdale Cemetery."
