Benson was my last senior missionary companion in the Brazilian South Mission in 1966. He was also one of my favorite companions. I knew him to be very thoughtful, kind, generous, fair, intelligent, a good counselor, and humble (he never told me that one of the Quorum of the Twelve, Ezra Taft Benson, was his uncle). We walked many hours together on the dirt roads of Ijuí, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and he continually amazed me with his ability to recite memorized poetry to me on any subject of my choice. He loved people and they loved him. He spoke perfect Portuguese and was often complimented on that ability. Our paths crossed several times after our missions and he was always kind and gracious - asking what I was doing and what my plans were. He is sorely missed by his many friends.
