Sabra Whittle Peterson Andersen
1933 - 2003

Early Life: Sabra was born January 19, 1933, in Fairview, Idaho, to Cyril Monroe Whittle and Lera Benson Whittle. As the second in a family of five boys and five girls, growing up in a small, rural community in Cache Valley, Sabra learned early to share in the responsibilities of both domestic and farm labor. She spent her teen years in Brawley, California.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: She attended classes at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah; she remained in Provo throughout her adult life. Her first and most endearing role was her chosen one, that of a wife and mother. On July 23, 1954, Sabra was sealed to Elwood Rey Peterson in the Manti Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They nurtured six of their seven children to adulthood and successful marriages. Their seventh child, though severely limited in physical ability and departing this life at an early age, was the source of great joy. When her children had grown, she turned to counseling full-time and worked with men and women who were suffering from a broken marriage, trauma from an abusive childhood, or a lonely life. Her husband, Elwood passed away August 20, 1983. She later married Dan Wayne Andersen for time in the Salt Lake Temple on February 12, 1989. They were privileged to serve two missions for the Church Educational System in Samoa, the South Pacific, and in New York City. Sabra served in a number of church leadership positions: ward and stake Young Women organization; ward and stake Primary president, ward and stake Relief Society; teacher in all ward auxiliaries for women; temple ordinance worker, trainer, supervisor; and served a mission with the Special Need Seminary. Her loves in life were her Savior, her family and her many friends. Sabra Whittle Peterson Andersen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home February 1, 2003. She was 70 years old.
Family Message: "One of the truly noble and elect ladies... Sabra and Dan want to thank family and friends who have shown such great love, respect, and devotion to her; for the Hospice organization for the kind and thoughtful care given; and to Rosalin for her "round the clock" love and care in her final few days. Sabra's life was truly enriched by the love and support of family and friends."
Survived By: Her husband, Dan; three sons: ElRey Lynn Peterson (Rosalin), Vaughn Leslie Peterson (Margaret), Thayne Monroe Peterson (Christine); three daughters: Klyss Smith (Steven A.), Valynn Baum (Gregery), Jenae Madsen (Tim); 32 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; mother, Lera Benson Whittle; her brothers: Lee Monroe Whittle (Vivian), William Whittle, George Benson Whittle (Patty), Cyril Whittle (Viki), Daniel Whittle (Cindy); sisters: Kennen Van Wagenen (Stephen), Sonja Peterson (Dennis), Marylou Viertel (Dean), Valery Miller (Daniel); and stepsons: David C.
