"LYLE AUSTIN MYERS was born on a farm near Lebanon, KS on Oct. 7, 1912. He passed away on dec. 13, 2003 in Greeley (CO). He and his parents migrated to Colorado to a farm near Yuma. His brothers, Verlin "Dick", Bill, Bob, Howard and sister , Colleen joined the family there. Bill and Bob remembered teasing Lyle until he would hang them by their bib overall straps on the picket fence -- then they had to wait for mom or dad to come rescue them! Lyle began working at the Yuma Theater while in high school and after graduation, he continued to work there, eventually going into part-ownership and then full-ownership.
"He married Ruby Carter in 1933. Ruby worked at the theater. They had two sons, Donald, who died in infancy, and Gary who died when he was 15 years old.
Lyle was an ambulance driver for Morris Mortuary and assisted cutting stones for them. Later he purchased a truck for grain and beet hauling in addition to his theater work.
"Ruby died in 1976. He then married Viola Herman. They celebrated their 25th anniversary about one month before Viola died while in Greeley, (CO).
"Lyle and Viola moved to Aransas Pass, Texas, in the early 1980s to live full-time. They had many close and dear friends in Mobile Village. Square dancing was a hobby of Lyle's When he visited family in Greely he hunted for those places where he could go and enjoy an evening of dancing. Lyle'e passion was fishing. He would go out in the gulf in his small motorboat, or stand on the beach, fishing for hours. He knew just the right spots to catch the fish, and knew what kind of fish would be there on any given day. Visiting family and friends always waited for the fish feast that would come sometime during their stay.
"Lyle did everything that he ever wanted to do: from owning Cadillacs, to square dancing, to fishing in those gulf water. Few of us can say that. And as his brother Bob said - he did it his way.
"Memorial services were held on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church in Yuma with Rev. Dr. Charles Traylor and Pastor Donna Herman officiating. There was a private family inurnment at the Yuma Cemetery. Services were directed by Baucke Funeral Home of Yuma, CO)...Yuma Pioneer, obituary
