MRS. MATTHEWS DIES AT 80
Mrs. Effie Matthews, 80, passed away Friday, November 16, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Daisy Sanford.
She was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Harris November 22, 1870, near Ravenna. On October 18, 1886 she married James Stuthard at Sparta and resided there until 1900 when they moved to Everett Township. Mr. Stuthard died May 21, 1918. In January 7, 1920 she married Abraham Matthews and they resided in Kent City. He preceded her in death.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Daisy Sanford of White Cloud and Mrs. Minnie Broughton of Portland, Oregon; one brother, Donald Harris of Burr Oak; two step-daughters, Mrs. Emma Clond and Mrs. Nellie Bailey, both of Rockford; one step-son, Claud Matthews of Rockford; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 19, at 2 p.m. at the Crandell and Ensing Chapel with Rev. John L. Francis officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
