Johan Conrad "Conrad" Bittenbender was born abt. 1716 in Palatinate, Germany. He imported to Philadelphia on ship "St. Andrew" from Rotterdam & Cowes, arriving 27 Oct. 1738. He lived in Hamilton Twp., Northampton Co. and married Anna Maria (Rothermel) (b. 12 Feb. 1711-12 and died before 30 May 1758). Conrad was massacred by Indians on 2 May 1757 while searching for stray horses near his home. Plaque on fence at church cemetery was dedicated by descendant. No known tombstones for Conrad or his wife.
Conrad and Anna Maria had at least 4 children, including sons George (abt. 1747), Christoffel (1750), Jacob (1752) and Conrad (1755). All sons supposedly served in the American Revolution.
