MRS. BRAATZ PASSES AWAY

Mrs. August Braatz, 72, passed away at her residence, 2520 Front street east, early this morning after a lingering illness.

Mrs. Braatz, was born in Prussia, province of Pommerania, on August 25, 1860. Her maiden name was Theresa Anna Mathilda Beltz. Having lost her parents when still an infant she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Christian Heldt and she took their name at that time.

In 1868 she came to America, settling at Mayville, Wisconsin. After a year she and her foster parents moved to Horicon and later, in 1876, they moved to Belle Plaine, Shawano county, Wisconsin. She was united in marriage there to August Braatz May 1, 1879. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Braatz moved onto a homestead in 1880 in Hutchins township in the northern part of Shawano county. They later moved to Hurley where they lived from 1887 to 1893 when they moved to Ashland. They have been residents here since that time. Mrs. Braatz was a member of the Zion Lutheran church and of the Ladies' Aid Society of that church.

Surviving are her husband and seven children, Albert of West Allis; Clara of Milwaukee; Dorothy, Mrs. Charles Fien of Detroit; Mathilda of Milwaukee; Sarah, Mrs. Walter G. King of Chicago; Richard, and Ruth, now Mrs. Walter Nordin, both of Chicago; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, June 6, at the residence at 2 o'clock and at the Zion Lutheran church at 2:30. The Reverend Otto Hattstaedt will have charge of religious services and interment will be at Mount Hope cemetery.
