83 Year Old Man Struck by a Street Car; Rites to be in Ashland

August Braatz, 83, resident of Ashland for many years until he moved to Chicago four years ago, was fatally injured in Chicago Wednesday when he was struck by a street car.

Mr. Braatz was born in Shawano, Wis., in 1857. [Actually, born in Karlsthal, Pommern, Prussia.] He lived in Ashland for several years and was employed here at the Ashland Sulphite Co., and the Peavy Paper Mill. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in Ashland. His wife preceded him in death several years ago.

Survivors include five daughters, Miss Clara Braatz, Chicago, Mrs. Fred Faulk (Dorothy) of Detroit; Mrs. John Kelly (Tillie) of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Walter King (Sadie) and Mrs. Walter Nordin (Ruth), both of Chicago, one son, Albert of West Allis, Wis., and four grand children.

Funeral services are pending the arrival of the body at the Pascoe-Erikson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for the late August Braatz, 83, of Chicago, and former Ashlander, who died Wednesday, after being struck by a Chicago street car, will be held at 1:30 on Monday at the Zion Lutheran church. The Rev. Paul Schedler will officiate and interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The body will be removed from the Pascoe-Erikson Funeral Home to the church at noon Monday and will lie in state from 12:30 until time of services.
