U.S. Congressman. Moving to Alabama, during the Civil War, he served as a Captain the 25th Regiment, Alabama Infantry, Confederate Army. After the war he became successful in mercantile pursuits in Roanoke, Alabama. In 1871, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress, serving until 1873. After his term, he was a member of the Alabama State Senate, (1888-92) and served in the Alabama State House of Representatives, (1903-07). After leaving politics, he resumed his former mercantile activities until his death at age 74.
