Elsworth was born the 7th of 12 children of Isaac and Delfringe Rice Wogaman. He grew up in Darke County and Celina, Ohio, and Muncie, Indiana. In Muncie, he married Ella Pearl Martin on September 26, 1903, and worked for Ball Brothers and other glass works. To their union 7 were born, one of whom, Esther, died in infancy. In 1910, Elsworth and family moved to Iosco County, Michigan, where Ella Pearl's parents and some siblings had moved on June 28, 1905. Elsworth worked for US Gypsum company in Alabaster, where he and his family lived for much of the rest of his life. In his later years, he lived with daughter Ethel Wemert, her husband Ed, and family.

Elsworth's grandson, George (my father), remembered him playing the violin and his nephew, Buryl Binder, remembered him as a whistler. He enjoyed a glass of wine or a beer at Chum's Bar in Tawas. Elsworth suffered a heart attack on New Year's Day 1955 and died two days later, just a few months shy of 75 years old. He is buried with his wife in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Tawas City.
