Richard Maurice Curtis was born on June 29, 1902 in Buchanan County, the son of Charles and Minnie Derr Curtis. He spent his entire life in this community as a farmer and for the past few years has been a resident of the Buchanan County Home. Richard died on Saturday, Oct 21, 1978, at the age of 76 after a lingering illness. He had been a patient at the University Hospital in Iowa City for the past 2 1/2 weeks. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and one grandson. He is survived by four sons: Richard D. of Cambridge,IL; Roger L. of Littleton, CO; Keith E. of Fredericksburg, IA and Kenneth I. of Winthrop and 18 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday Oct 24 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop. Burial was in the Wilson Cem, Buchanan Co. at Independence.
