2/21/1985- Tuttle Times:
Funeral services were conducted for Richard Broadhurst Feb 12, at the Tuttle Methodist church with Rev Dan Patman officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons and great grandsons. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Tuttle. Broadhurst was born 12/6/1884 in Vigo County, Indiana. He departed this life Feb 9 at the age of 100yrs, 2mo, 3days. He and Nettie Garner were married in November 1901 in Illinois. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary 11/17/1971 in Tuttle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie, and son, Clarence . He is survived by 3 sons, Hubert of Bastrop, TX, Bill of Muleshoe, TX, & Walter of Tuttle, 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. He grew up in Illinois where he learned to be a farmer. He and his father, Samuel, came to Tuttle, I.T. in 1906 to "take a look at the land and new townsite". They returned to Illinois where Richard harvested his corn crop. In 1907, he and Nettie and their 3 small sons, Clarence, Hubert, & Bill, moved to Tuttle, a few months prior to statehood. Walter was born in Tuttle. He had the privilege of casting his vote for statehood for Oklahoma. Broadhurst saw many changes, not only in this state, but in the nation as well. He lived during the administration of 18 presidents. He was a farmer-rancher in 7 different states and remained active until the past few years. He moved back to Tuttle in 1973 and made his home here until 2 years ago when he moved to Austin, TX. In the last few years, his ambition was to live to be 100 yrs old. He realized that ambition Dec 6, 1984, when his family gathered to celebrate.
