Bill Broadhurst entered this world on June 1, 1905 under the presidency of Teddy Roosevelt. Born in Clarke County, Illinois, his family moved to the Tuttle area before it became a state. He attended a country school, grew up on the farm and graduated from Tuttle High School in 1923. Graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1928 with a degree in geology, Bill began his career in the oil business, but was laid off twice during the great depression. He turned back to farming with his family during the 1930s, but the dustbowl era made success difficult. In 1936, he began a career as a hydrologist and later, was Regional Director for the US Geological Survey. In 1953, Bill left the USGS to serve as Chief Hydrologist for the High Plains Water District in Lubbock. He returned to the USGS in 1964 and worked there until retirement in 1973. At retirement, Bill's life was just beginning. He returned to farming in the Texas panhandle for many years. By this time, Bill was a widower, but as fate would have it, at an annual picnic in Tuttle, Bill was reunited with Nina Breese, a childhood sweetheart. At age 77, he and Nina were joined in marriage. They moved to Moore and had the time of their lives for the next 16 years. After his beloved Nina passed away in 1998, Bill enjoyed another 10 years of active retirement in Moore, and then at the age of 99 moved to Austin, Texas to be close to his grandchildren. Bill's long life is only exceeded by who he was and how he lived. He possessed a rare intelligence and incredible memory. Articulate, resourceful and an innovative leader, he was always looking to the future. Bill routinely moved past adversity by choosing to respond in a positive manner. By any measure, his life was full, productive and complete. Bill was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Moore. He enjoyed many years of great fellowship and service to the community along with all of his steadfast friends at the Lodge. At the age of 99, Bill put his faith in Christ as his personal Savior. We are grateful that he is now residing in his bright and joyful heavenly home, and in the presence of his Lord. Bill is preceded in death by his daughter Patsy. He is also preceded in death by his wife Nina, her son Jerry Pults and daughter Janice Pults. Services were held on Saturday, November 22 at 2 p.m. at the Ireland Funeral Home in Moore, with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle.
