Son of Fred Mackey and Polly Archer, Orval, was born in Decatur, Nebraska on July 27, 1928. He was one of eight siblings. In 1940 his family moved from Nebraska to Oregon. Orval attended North Salem High School and during this time he met his lifelong love and wife of 63 years, Edris Stewart. They married on November 28, 1947.
Orval was Co-owner of Mackey and Noland Masonry, and completed hundreds of commercial masonry projects throughout the Willamette Valley in its 30 years of operation.
Retired at 49 years of age, Orval pursued his love of golf, fishing and hunting. He was a long-time member at Santiam Golf Course. Orval lived a full life and was most known by his friends and family for his extreme kindness and witty sense of humor.
