Claire Johnson Dickson, 93, was born November 11, 1911, in Moab, Utah, to George Washington and Mabel Wilcox Johnson. She was the second of 9 children. She passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 17, 2005. The family spent their summers in the LaSal Mountains and their school time in Moab. After graduation, Claire apprenticed as a beautician with her Aunt Olive. With these skills, she ventured out of Utah to California, then on to cruise ships. She did hair and was able to travel - a passion she had all her life. She went around the world twice. She especially loved the Orient. It was on one of these cruises that she met her husband, Tom Dickson. They were married October 10, 1937, in Moab, and then settled in California. When World War II broke out, Tom was sent to the Pacific Arena and Claire worked in the shipyards. She was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters" - an electrician and foreman. Upon Tom's return, they made their home in San Francisco and had two boys - Mike and Tom. They moved to Menlo Park in the early 50's. When Tom died in 1965, Claire again went back to work - at Hewlett-Packard and continued to travel. She moved to Utah in the 80's - built and managed an apartment complex - traveled some more. She loved BYU football, taking classes, swimming, and her friends. She was a Temple worker in the Provo Temple. She is survived by her two sons, daughters-in-law, Debi and Christine; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and her brothers: Arden, Kent, Floyd, and Homer Johnson, as well as their families; and numerous other nephews and nieces. Her parents, sisters, Lora Douglas, LaNeve Thompson, Maureen Johnson, and her brother, Wallace Johnson, preceded her in death. We wish to thank the staff at Bel Aire Assisted Living and Hearts for Hospice. We appreciate their loving care and support. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.
