Tyree Garrison was born in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was the son of John and Nancy (Preston) Garrison. He married first Martha H. Brinkley. They relocated to Dyer County, Tennessee in the late 1850's with several brothers and sisters. Martha died in Dyer County, Tennessee in the early 1860's. They had one child John M.Garrison. Tyree left Dyer County, and moved to Hickman County, Kentucky with his son. There he met and married Lavinia Jackson. They had seven children Nancy, Will, Ruben, Charlie Smith, Joe Henry, Mattie, and Lela who was born right after Tyree's death. Tyree was a Farmer by trade his entire life. He fell ill in December of 1881 after harvesting sweet potatoes in the cold weather. He is buried in the area outside the fence on the East side of the Cemetery up on the far North of that side near the big tree in an unmarked grave. His son John M. Garrison is buried next to him in an unmarked grave also. The picture of Tyree that I have displayed here on this site is the only one of him that exists. It was probably taken of him in the late 1850's. It was given to me by my Aunt Alma Bell (Garrison)Wiley Randolph. It was given to her by her Aunt Nancy (Garrison) Hinkle.
