The Fairbury Blade

Samuel Bachtold, who for the past 36 years had resided in Fairbury and vicinity, passed away at his home on Eat. Walnut street Tuesday morning at sis o'clock at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Mr. Bachgtold was born in Scheithein, Switzerland, January 21, 1840, where he spent the greater part of his life. He learned the shoemaker's trade and followed that occupation while a resident of his native country.

In 1864 Mr. Bachtold was united in marriage to Saloma Pletcher, who together with one son, Chris, preceded him in death. The latter resided at Sarcoxie, Mo., at the time of his death, which was six years ago.

The surviving children are Miss Margaret, of Fairbury; Henry, of Forrest; William, of Cropsey, and Gus of Strawn. There also survive 40 grandchildren, 18 grandchildren and one brother, Christian who resides in Switzerland. Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Bachtold came to this county in 1894 making his home for a number of years with his sons. For the past 17 years he had made his home with his daughter, Miss Margaret, on East Walnut street, in this city.

The deceased was a kind father and a good friend and neighbor who will be missed by all who knew him.

The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at one o'clock from the Christian Apostolic Church and interment was in Graceland Cemetery.
