Lorene (Rene) Stubbs, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Lorene was born in Prairie Lea, Texas, February 7, 1924. Fifty-six of her 87 years she resided in Corpus Christi, where her four children were born and reared. She was completely devoted to her husband, children and home. The children kept in constant contact with their parents through the years after completing their education and following their careers. She had loving, protective, relations with her brothers and sisters.

Rene's favorite times were occasions when her family met for long weekends and stories of their beloved mother were recalled, followed by gales of laughter and tears. Her wish was that her family will remember her in the same manner.

Rene was active in civic affairs. Organizing three garden clubs and encouraging beautification in every city they lived. She served on the Board of Directors of 'PADAP' and was president of both Rockport, Texas and Blountstown, Florida Park Boards. Her hobbies were designing their homes, interior design and landscaping. Her love of nature took her and Bill miles to enjoy a landscape, park or trees. As they traveled over the years, her tree file grew. Her camera recorded trees she considered beautiful. To her, trees were one of God's greatest gift to humanity. Her family often heard her quote lines of a favorite poem, 'I think I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree.' She instilled love of nature and good design in her children.

In 1979 she organized, incorporated, and served five years as president of St. Andrews Park Foundation. A 36-acre landfill located in Corpus Christi Country Club was adopted and members turned the acreage into a park with irrigation, trees, playground for handicapped, tennis and volleyball courts, bicycle and jogging trails. Awards by A&M College Station and the city were earned and club members planted a tree and placed a plaque in her honor upon completion and dedication of the park.

She was employed 21-years by Corpus Christi Caller Times. Prior to retirement in 1994, she, with her son, became owner/partner of 'Compudata Accounting Service,' she, as manager. She and Bill retired to the Hill Country and spent six wonderful years on the Llano River located between Llano and Mason, Texas, shaded by many large, old, oak trees. They created a landscape that natives said could not grow or exist in the hill country environment. All her dreams came true before ill health brought the couple back to South Texas.

Rene was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Marguerite Becker; father Julius Becker; sisters, Bernice Neal Becker; brother, Julius Glen Becker; and recently deceased sister, Helen Easley of Corpus Christi.

She is survived by her husband, William Wyatt 'Bill' Stubbs, Jr., of Corpus Christi; her sons, Scott Russell (Courtney) and granddaughter Kendall Rene of Las Vegas, Nevada; William Wyatt Stubbs, III 'Bill' (Pamela) of Corpus Christi; Wes Edward Schiwitz (Sally) of Brunswick, Georgia; daughter, Tracy Dee Stuckey of Ingleside; granddaughter, Karisma Lynn Luke (Dean) and great grandchildren Michael and Nathan Luke, of Ingleside, Texas, and Laura Kay Stuckey of Taft, Texas; sisters, Jo Harsdorff (Fritz), Eva Sanders of New Orleans; brothers, Billy Becker (Liz) of Houston; Carl Becker (Nancy) of Harlingen.

The family would like to acknowledge the following care givers to Lorene, Eva Villegas, Janette Watson, Sarah Farmer, Jeri Ann Becker, Monica Rodriguez, and Eva Villegas.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be held at a later date in Robstown Cemetery
