DECATUR, Ga. - Geraldine Adams Patrick of Decatur, known for her generosity of time, spirit and funding to the Presbyterian Church, USA, died July 20, 2011 at the age of 96.

Jerry began a life of volunteer work in the early 1950's assisting at Mission Haven, a furlough home in Decatur for Presbyterian missionaries. She eventually became the executive director and remained on their board until her death. She also enjoyed serving along with her husband Joe Patrick (deceased, 1992) on the Board of Visitors of both Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., and Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur. She and Joe were especially active at Columbia Presbyterian Church where Jerry served the Women of the Church in all capacities. In addition to volunteer work within the church, Jerry loved her years of work in the Decatur City Schools PTA. After Joe's death, Jerry moved to Clairmont Place where she enjoyed many active years and many friendships. She was the oldest member of East Lake Golf Club. Jerry was especially proud of contributions to church and community through the Patrick Family Foundation, started by Joe and Jerry in 1988. She served as president until her death. Born in Morgan County, Ga., March 18, 1915 to Ben and Coley Adams, Jerry attended GSCW in Milledgeville, Ga.; graduated from the University of Georgia; and taught first and second grade in Atlanta and Winder before she and Joe settled in Decatur. In addition to her husband, she was pre-deceased by her brother, James M. Adams of Monticello and her sister, Rebecca A. Jester of Valdosta. Surviving are her children, Joseph E. Patrick, Jr. and Hilda B. Patrick of Decatur, and Dorothea Patrick Smith and William L. Smith IV of East Liverpool, Ohio. Grandchildren Bonnie Patrick Hannah, Heather Patrick McCloskey, Newell Smith Harbin, Leah Smith Knight and Patricia Smith Kempe. Great-grandchildren William Patrick Hannah, Harry Buchanan Hannah, Rebecca Grace McCloskey and Calvin George McCloskey. Jerry was surrounded by the love and care of Enid Stewart, Vera Lewis, Claudette Solomon and Mazie Johnson.

Following a graveside service at the Covington, Georgia City Cemetery on Monday, July 25, 2011 for the family, there will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Columbia Presbyterian Church.
