Esther Mae (McClure) Cocklin, age 90, of Dillsburg, passed away, July 21, 2011, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, Harrisburg.
She was born Friday, February 4, 1921, in Port Royal, PA, the daughter of the late George Orthy & Emma Jane (Groninger) McClure.
Esther graduated from Port Royal High School in 1939 as class Valdictorian. She was a retired beautician, having worked in Carlisle and for the Cocklin Funeral Home, in Dillsburg for many years. She also worked alongside her husband from 1957 – 1984 in sales and as the office manager for Cocklin Brothers Furniture, Dillsburg.
Esther was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Filey's Parish, Dillsburg where she was active in the senior choir and its Women of the Church. She was a charter member of the Dillsburg Woman's Cub; played in various card clubs and bowling leagues. She was very active in her book club, having read over 300 books in the last several years.
She was the widow of the late James A. Cocklin.
Esther is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; John and Sherri Cocklin, of Manalapan, NJ. Her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dan Grove, of Lemoyne. Her daughter-in-law, Nancy Cocklin, of Dillsburg. Her grandchildren: Adam and Matt Grove; Karen Tushek, Becky Cocklin, Amy Cox, Andrew and Jason Cocklin. Her great-grandchildren: Sophie, Julian and Adrien Grove, Joy and Hank Tushek and Xander Cox. Her granddogs, Benton, Lola and Ziggy.
She was predeceased by her son, J. Larry Cocklin, her sisters: Lillian Ritzman, Margaretta Ritzman, Leone Goodman and Jessie Peffer and her brother, Elliott McClure.
Services will be held, Saturday, 11:30 a.m., July 23, 2011, at the Cocklin Funeral Home,Inc., 30 N. Chestnut Street, Dillsburg, PA, with the Reverend Debbie A. Mahady, officiating. Burial will be in the Dillsburg Cemetery – Mountain Road. A viewing will be held 2 hours prior to the service on Saturday, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Funeral Home.
