OBIT: John McMullen Painter died at his home in Cromwell Township early Saturday morning, Feb. 15, 1947, after an illness of a year and a half. He was born in Cromwell Township on June 9, 1876, the son of Samuel and Amanda (Jorden) Painter. In Sept. 1897 he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa Hammond at the United Brethren parsonage in Three Springs. Mrs. Painter and seven children are surviving: Lelah (Mrs. Benjamin Gentt ), Altoona; Earl and Ada (Mrs. Albert Rogers), both of Three Springs R.D .; Paul, Mount Union R.D.; Pearl (Mrs. Owen Stinson), Wood; Dorothy (Mrs. Robert Wilson), Orbisonia R.D.; and Floyd at home. There are also surviving 24 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and these brothers and sisters: Charles Painter, Pitcairn; Winfield Painter, Altoona; Joseph and William Painter, both of Three Springs; Mrs. Jennie Lane, Wood; Mrs. Blanche Cline, Huntingdon; Harry Painter, Hollidaysburg; Walter Painter, Three Springs R.D.; and Sylvester Painter, Coatesville. Mr. Painter was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace. He was a farmer by occupation. In 1922 he moved to the present Paint er farm in Cromwell Township. He was a kind and loving husband and fath er and a considerate neighbor. The funeral service will be held in the Painter home on Tuesday at 2 p. m. Officiating will be the Rev. Martin Scholten of the Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace, assisted by the Rev. Theodore Bowers of the Evangelical United Brethren Church Three Springs. Interment will be in Monroe Cemetery, Cromwell Township. Friends are being received at the late home. Ott's funeral service.
